James E. Clippard, 89, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Springfield, Virginia, died at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2016, at his home. He was born Aug. 17, 1926, in Greenbrier, Missouri, to John and Ruby (Reeves) Clippard. He married Joyce Bennett on Dec. 17, 1949. She preceded him in death Aug. 9, 2013. James retired with honor from the United States Navy after a distinguished military career. He was an avid outdoorsman and strong father figure. He was greatly loved and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his children, Jillian Cotter, James and John Clippard; a sister, Kaye Clippard-Lampman; three brothers, Charles, Frank and Lonnie Clippard; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and four siblings. Funeral services for James Clippard will be held at a later date in Springfield, Virginia. Interment with military honors will take place at Arlington National Cemetery. Crain Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau is in charge of local arrangements.
