Norman Devoye “Dee” Upton, 69, formerly of Bowling Green, died March 9 at his home in Madison, Wis. He was preceded in death by his father, Norman Upton; his mother, Jessie Mae Gard; and his sister, Margie Lyle.
He was retired from the United States Navy, having served at the Pentagon, as well as naval bases in Ireland and Bermuda, and was a Vietnam veteran. He was a former youth coach for Bowling Green Warren County Parks Association, and had coached soccer, baseball and basketball for more than 15 years.
He is survived by his wife, Sonia James Upton of Madison; one daughter, Derri Cash and her husband, Barry, of Hendersonville, Tenn.; two sons, Kevin Upton and his partner, Michael Owens, of Corby, England, and Benjamin Upton of Herndon, Va.; a stepson, Jason James of Bowling Green; two grandsons, Dylan Cash, serving aboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, of Norfolk, Va., and Patrick Cash of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be March 24 at 2 p.m. at Broadway United Methodist Church in Bowling Green. In lieu of flowers, send donations to the American Brain Tumor Association at www.abta.org
